YOUNGSTERS at a York primary school have some new feathered friends.

Just under two months ago, pupils at Park Grove School in The Groves were given nine eggs and an incubator from the company Hatch-it York.

Six of the eggs hatched and the children were able to watch their progress for two weeks – until they had to go back to the company.

Claire Dykes, who works in the school office, said: β€œIt was extremely educational, scientific and great fun for the children. They named the birds Oreo, Gary, Daffodil, Daisy, Iggy and Snowy.”

She said the experiment was such a success that head teacher, Jo Sawyer, decided it may be nice to have the hens back to produce fresh eggs.
