COLIN Rathbone finished third in his age class during the London Marathon on Sunday, only being pipped for second spot in the race’s final 2km.
The Vale Royal Athletics Club member, 71, completed the course in a time of 3:21.31.
Rob Olliver was the first of the club’s contingent to reach the finish in 2:53.23.
Ian Brough (3:04.14), James Edwards (3:08.37), Dave Haines (3:12.04), Tony Archer (3:26.02), Bob Corinaldi (3:36.22) and Angie Channing (3:44.48) raced in Vale Royal blue and gold too.
In the Mini Marathon, Alfie Bould – representing the North West – finished as runner-up in the under 13s boys’ race after clocking a time of 15:55.
Vale Royal Athletics Club runners Jacob Brown and Josh Betteley finished 27th and 74th respectively in the under 17s boys’ category on Sunday.
