TONY Sullivan insists Witton Albion will score the points they need to avoid being relegated despite his side falling to successive defeats at the weekend.

They lost 3-0 at Nantwich on Monday, leaving them three points – and only two places – above the bottom four in the Northern Premier League’s top flight.

Whitby had been winners by the same score at Wincham Park 48 hours earlier.

Albion now have four games to save themselves, starting with a visit from title-favourites FC United of Manchester on Saturday.

In the next three weeks, the 40-year-old believes his position at the club – and that of his players – will be determined.

“I’m in the firing line,” he admitted.

“I feel under pressure because we’ve thrown ourselves back into the mix when we could have avoided it.

“Some players thought the job was done, and it’s not. I’ve never said that publicly or privately.

“We’ve caused ourselves problems because we haven’t been good enough for the past two games.

“All of us have a point to prove, and it’s time to stand up and be counted.

“Everybody needs to be together in the next four games, which will determine the future direction of this football club.”

Albion’s afternoon at Nantwich started badly, conceding twice in the first 20 minutes.

Goalkeeper Andrew Robertson’s second-half dismissal brought an ignominious end to a weekend that was supposed to have yielded a victory that takes Witton to chairman Mark Harris’ 50-point target.

Sullivan said: “I wonder if some players have started to believe they’re better than they are after the good run we’ve been on.

“We can’t concede goals like we have in these two games; the third [against Nantwich] was like nothing I’ve ever seen at this level – it was ridiculous.

“The first was embarrassing, while the second came from a free kick conceded cheaply.

“We didn’t turn up.

“The players need to help each other out, not look around for somebody to blame when we make a mistake.

“There are four games left, and we’re in a scrap until the end.

“I was brought here to keep the club in this division, and that’s what I intend to do.”

After a weekend visit from FC United, Witton play host to Blyth Spartans in their final home game of the campaign seven days later.

Away trips to Ashton United and then Stamford complete follow.
