DAVID WEIR can play until he's 39 - that was the message from the Scotland defender's agent today.

Weir marshalled the Rangers' defence superbly against Celtic on Sunday afternoon and there have been suggestions that he could extend his Ibrox stay at the end of the season.

The 36-year-old's contract expires in May but Dave Lockwood, his agent, expects Weir to still be playing for the next couple of seasons, either in the SPL or south of the border.

Weir's family remain in England but it's believed that the defender has enjoyed the chance to turn out for his boyhood side and could be tempted to remain in Glasgow.

"I speak to David every week and he is really enjoying life at Rangers," said Lockwood. "He will play football next season, that is for certain.

"I would also stick my neck out and say that he will play the year after that as well. Whether he stays at Rangers, I do not know yet. But I will be in Glasgow early April to talk about it.

"It is difficult to predict what might happen. But what I can say is that already some English clubs have been in touch with me about David for next season. You don't lose your brain at 35 or 36 and David has always been an intelligent player."

Kris Boyd, meanwhile, jetted to Spain today confident Rangers can get a result against Osasuna.

"There's not a bigger stage than Celtic Park and going there and taking three points has given us confidence," he said.

"It sets us up nicely for Wednesday night so hopefully we can go over there and get through to the last eight of the competition."
