NECTAR’S claimed the second promotion place in the Northwich and District League’s bottom tier on a night of unexpected results.
Lion B, victors in their previous 15 matches in Division Three, were favourites to finish as runners-up behind champions-elect Barn Owl E after starting Wednesday’s match with a single-point lead.
However they lost 4-3 at lowly Blue Barrel B, who recorded only a third league victory of the campaign.
Nectar’s took advantage, a 6-1 defeat of Greenbank D propelling them above their rivals in the final table.
As expected, Barn Owl E finished first after whitewashing Green Dragon B.
Barn Owl A and Blue Barrel A were also victors on the night, against Witton Chimes B and Greenbank B respectively.
Promotion already secured, the leading teams in Division Two both signed off for the season with wins.
Champions Green Dragon A hammered Wheatsheaf, while runners-up Greenbank A edged Moulton Legion by the odd frame.
Owley Wood B ended a three-match winning sequence for Lion A, recording a 5-2 success.
Barn Owl B returning to winning ways following a five-game losing run, though a victory at Witton Chimes A arrived too late to change the outcome of the promotion race.
Elsewhere, Greebank C eased past Chapels.
