CHESHIRE could not prevent Yorkshire from returning home as 23-16 victors after a British Inter County Championship match at Rudheath Social Club over the weekend.

The hosts slip to fifth place in the Premier Division table as a result.

The visitors won a battle of the men’s A teams by 9-3, but four head-to-heads went to a deciding leg.

Stuart Kellett was a 4-0 winner against John Walton, averaging 27.83 for a single dart.

The men’s B sides drew 6-6, with Winsford darter Dave Bird recording the highest average for the home team, 28.51, in a 4-2 success against Steve Stacey.

Matthew Hunt, from Weaverham, lost 4-1 to Wayne Mills while Winsford’s Steve Lomas, a late call-up, went down 4-2 against Jim Gordon.

Cheshire women’s A drew 3-3 with their Yorkshire counterparts, with Andrea Hunt (Winsford) a victor against Lyn Horne.

Northwich thrower Jane Stubbs lost 3-1 to Lorraine Winstanley.

Heidi Williams and Bev Martin, both from Winsford, were part of a women’s B team that won 4-2.

The former squeezed past Katie Hoggarth after a winner-takes-all decider, while Martin missed out in a fifth leg against Rachel Sheard.

Cheshire will want to bounce back at the first attempt when Lincolnshire, currently sixth, visit at the end of the month.
