ALAN Kemp won a dash to the line with a rival to claim a first victory of the season at last week’s Pinvin Road Race.

The Weaver Valley Cycling Club rider was overtaken by Don Parry (Team Corley) with 1km of the 40-mile course left, only to stay on his opponent’s wheel before powering past him in a sprint finish.

Earlier, Kemp had bridged a gap to three riders who had initially broken clear before attacking several times in an attempt to weaken the field.

Weaver Valley’s Tony Booth and Andy Poole took part in St Helens Cycle Racing Club’s race at Pimbo.

A crash on the last lap split the field in the elite race and, though Booth closed a gap to riders at the front, he failed to make an impression in a sprint finish.

Poole reached the line along with the rest of the bunch in the category three and four race.

Husband and wife duo, Dave and Caroline Fearon, were victors on a tandem in a Manchester and District Time Trial Association 10 at Byley, timing 24:41.

Connor Fearon clocked 27:13, while Alistair Stanway classified 21st in 23:47. Bill Campbell followed in 47th place in 25:07.

Victor Dan Evans (Team Elite) was 25-seconds clear of his closest rival, finishing in 21:06.

The Fearons repeated their tandem victory on Saturday, this time in 24:20.

Jim Duffy was first Weaver Valley rider to finish, clocking 23:49 to rank 31st, followed by Stanway in 24:33 and Campbell in 25:48.

Connor Fearon timed 27:36.

Meanwhile Dennis Hornby and Alan Shuttleworth were second and third respectively in the Tricycle Association North West 10 the same day.
