GREEN Dragon A and Greenbank A all but assured they will be promoted to the Northwich and District League’s top flight next season after recording wins in their latest matches.
The former’s defeat of Barn Owl B, for whom Barry Watkins contributed a maximum break, leaves the Barnton outfit 11 points adrift of second spot following four successive league reverses.
Greenbank A saw off Chapels.
Back-markers Wheatsheaf, victors in their past three outings, came a cropper at Moulton Legion following a final-frame decider.
They are now seven points from safety.
In Division One, The Elms kept alive hopes of avoiding the wooden spoon after a surprise success at Gladstone B.
Andy Doran and Danny MacIntyre cued 8-ball breaks for the home team, but they proved in vain.
Penultimate-bottom Gladstone A suffered a seventh successive defeat, this time to newly-crowned champions Gladstone C.
Elsewhere Owley Wood improved their chances of finishing third following a 5-2 win against Barn Owl C, with Danny Lloyd’s maximum break a highlight.
Current incumbents Castle Private B lost 4-3 at Rudheath.
The Lion B occupy the second promotion place in Division Three by the smallest of margins following a 6-1 win against Greenbank D, buoyed by Antony Dale’s 8-ball break.
Nectar’s, now a single point adrift in third, beat Greenbank B.
Champions-elect Barn Owl E proved too strong for Davenham Legion, who they whitewashed, and have a six-point lead at the table’s summit.
Blue Barrel B ended a 12-week wait to win a league fixture, thrashing Witton Chimes B, but it is not enough to stop them propping up the section.
Green Dragon B lost at Barn Owl A in the other match played on Wednesday.
