SELECTORS for Great Britain’s junior team cast an eye over five teenagers from clubs based in Northwich at the weekend.
Leon Langmead, George Lawton, Greg Murphy and Beth Willford-Dutton, from Northwich Rowing Club, were among those hoping to make an impression on the water at Boston.
Grange School Rowing Club’s Scott Ozsanlav-Harris joined them there.
Lawton and Ozsanlav-Harris were second fastest of more than a dozen crews in a double scull over 5,000m on Saturday, while Langmead and Olly Dix (Leicester) were fourth.
On Sunday, Lawton joined forces with Gavin Horsburgh (Glasgow Academy) to again finish second in 18:29.8.
Ozsanlav-Harris, this time in a boat with Glasgow Academy’s Josh Armstrong, was one place further back while Langmead, in tandem with Jonathan Cameron (Claires Court School), classified sixth.
In the under 16s category, Willford-Dutton was fourth fastest in a single scull on Saturday, timing 20:01.0, before ranking 15th in a double with Natalie Graham (Bedford Modern) the following day.
Murphy, 13th in the single time trial, found greater form in a double with Runcorn Rowing Club’s Kevin Mason to classify second – just a tenth of a second behind the quickest boat.
All five hope to have done enough to attend a spring assessment training camp at Caversham in April.
Final trials for Great Britain’s junior team are scheduled for later the same month at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham.
