KATIE Gerrard was a race-winner for Mid Cheshire during Saturday’s Cheshire Schools’ Cross Country Championships.

The Grange School student saw off her rivals in the senior girls’ age group at Knights Grange, in Winsford, to claim one of two medals won by the district team.

Alex Doyle, of Middlewich High School, was the other, finishing third in the junior boys’ race.

Vale Royal Athletics Club runners Josh Betteley and Edward Pettitt, of Sandbach School, were victors in the inter boys and minor boys’ races categories respectively.

Their clubmate Caitlin Dimmick, of Sandbach High School, claimed class honours in the junior girls’ race.

In the senior boys' category, Vale Royal's Matthew Sheen (South Cheshire College) and Jacob Brown (Sandbach School) were second and third respectively behind victor Liam Burthem.

Jessica Parsons, a student at Helsby High School, was third in the senior girls' category.

They all must now wait to discover if they will be included in Cheshire's team for the English Schools' Cross Country Championship at Witton Country Park, in Blackburn, in March.
