STUART Kellett will play at next month’s German Darts Championship after coming through a qualifying competition at Wigan on Sunday.
The Northwich ace put behind him the disappointment of a first-round exit at last month’s PDC World Championships by winning matches against Darren Mawer (6-1), Ricky Evans (6-1) and higher-ranked Ronnie Baxter (6-2) to secure a spot at the three-day tournament in Hildesheim.
The world number 33 reached the second stage of last year’s edition before succumbing to Paul Nicholson.
Kellett could not repeat the trick in a qualifier for the Gibraltar Darts Trophy later on Sunday, bowing out against MDA Promotions stablemate Daryl Gurney (6-2).
The 33-year-old had seen off Cambridgeshire county player Pete Dyos, who like him had earlier secured a trip to Germany, in the first round.
The German Darts Championship, the first PDC European Tour event of 2015, is scheduled to start on Friday, February 13.
Here's how Kellett reacted afterwards:
Fair play to my mate Daryl. He played brill. Very happy wiv my performances today though. My proper form is coming back
