WINNINGTON Park seconds avenged a defeat earlier in the season to Firwood Waterloo on Saturday, extending a winning sequence in the league to six matches.

They ran in nine tries during a convincing 59-14 victory at Burrows Hill in North West Intermediate League Division Three South, rising to third in the table as a reward.

Josh Gibbons touched down twice, while Dan Billington, Dan Pugh, Jarrod Pickering, Ed Wilkinson, Gareth May and James Johnson contributed a try apiece.

James Johnson kicked three conversions and two penalties, while Steve Lowe added the extras to another try.

Park return to action at Broughton thirds on Saturday week.

In Division Five South, Winnington thirds were beaten 36-22 by Congleton seconds.

Park have now slipped to seventh in the standings following four successive defeats.

Winnington Park’s juniors were on the wrong end of a 63-7 scoreline at Sale FC when the North West Colts League season resumed on Sunday.

The victors close to within two points of leaders Chester at the Division B summit as a result.

Park visit Wigan this Sunday, when a win will propel them from the bottom of the table.
