TONY Sullivan has told his players to make the most their upturn in form after Witton Albion climbed from the table’s bottom four in midweek.

They had been there since losing at leaders Skelmersdale United in the middle of last month.

But a 3-0 victory at Buxton, in which Alex Titchiner scored his first league goals of the campaign, means Sullivan’s side travel to Blyth Spartans this weekend seeking to win three successive matches for the first time this term.

“Those lads proved something on Tuesday,” said the Witton boss.

“They showed to me, and to our supporters, that they can be organised to play with discipline.

“If they do that consistently, then we know we have attacking players that can do damage to our opponents.

“That’s exactly what happened, because Titch’s finishing was lethal.

“Everybody is feeling better, and happier, but there is a lot of work to do.”

Indeed, a Blyth victory at Croft Park will likely send Witton back into the drop zone.

But Albion will not prove easy to beat, a change Sullivan believes has been the most important in a sequence of five league and cup games that have yielded three wins and a draw since a first-half capitulation at FC United earlier this month.

“We’re looking more solid defensively,” he said.

“The back three are looking like they won’t be bullied, which is something that was happening earlier in the season. That will be important again at Blyth.

“Our aim is to win as many games as we can as quickly as possible.

“We have a target of where we’d like to be at the turn of the year, and that’s what we’re thinking about.

“With a bit of momentum that we have now, it’s an achievable one too.”

Witton travel north without front man Jamie Rainford, who sits out the final match of a suspension, but Mike Koral is available again.

Luke Clark, so impressive on his debut in last Saturday’s 5-2 success against Ashton United, watched from the stands at Silverlands in midweek after complaining of a tight hamstring.

Joe Shaw stands by to start in midfield.
