HOSTS Northwich Rowing Club can boast they had the fastest crew at their annual Autumn Head on Sunday.

A junior men’s quad consisting of Leon Langmead, George Lawton, Sam Harte and Harry Blake completed a 2,350m course in 7:46.5 to win the Tim Hooper Trophy.

Northwich topped the medals table after claiming wins in 13 other boat classes.

An MJ17 quad scull of Jack Koch, Matthew Roberts, Chris Malley and Mike Lundy were victors too, while George Lawton and Greg Murphy won in the same age category as double.

Roberts was fastest in a single.

Murphy took the MJ16 singles title, while George Crouchley, Lawrence Williams, Matthew Radford and Rhys Coffey claimed the quad prize.

Williams ranked first among the novice singles too.

Langmead timed 9:20.0 to win in an MJ18 single, while Harte and Jack Radford were fastest double.

Callie Bloodworth, Victoria Gardner, Anya George and India Trigg were faster than their rivals in a WJ17 quad.

Beth Willford-Dutton won the WJ16 single sculls, a feat matched by Leila McGrorty and Harriet Anderson in a novice double.

John Johnson, Ben Southern, Oliver Lee, James Bradbury and cox James Morrison won in an IM3 coxed four, while a women’s masters quad of Mary Ozsanlav-Harris, Elaine Young, Carole Riddell and Claire Holt claimed class honours too.

“The day went smoothly thanks to volunteers from the club and the region,” said Northwich captain Rachel Hooper.

“We enjoyed great success and again proved we are the club to beat, especially at junior level.”

Neighbours Grange School Rowing Club were victors in five categories, including Scott Oszanlav-Harris (IM single) and Jonny Glover (IM3 single).

Matt and Tom Roe were in an IM3 double that completed the course in 9:06.7 to claim class honours.

The latter joined Matt Strickland-Baker, Tom Dufty and Reece Lester in an IM2 quad, coxed by Ellie Briegal, that won in 9:01.3.

Meg Butler stroked a WJ16 quad, coxed by Megan Walker to victory in 10:19.8.

Louise Semple, Nicole Semple and Charlotte Lawrence made up the rest of the boat’s crew.

The Sue Benyon Trophy for fastest female crew on the day went to Runcorn Rowing Club’s elite quad, which completed the course in 9:07.1.

Meanwhile a Runcorn and Trafford composite became the inaugural winners of the Faith Murray Trophy for the quickest WJ14 coxed quad.
