Winnington Park 17 Wilmslow 36

WILMSLOW made their class tell during a stunning spell shortly after the interval when they touched down four tries.

It was enough to reach the Cheshire RFU Vase final, but Winnington had matched them in the first period to reach the break level at 10-10.

Their guests’ blitz, when a strong wind and tiring legs left Park pinned inside their own half, meant they became the first visiting team since March to leave Burrows Hill as victors.

The contest was closer earlier on, when Wilmslow opened the scoring after a slick move out wide.

Park replied, Jack Williams feeding captain Fraser Lindsay for the first of his two scores after he had cut a fine line through the away side’s defence.

Wilmslow crossed again and Williams missed a penalty, but he slotted another attempt to restore parity before half time.

A flurry of scores followed after the turnaround, three of them converted, to put the game out of Park’s reach.

They did not relent though, taking the chance to attack when they could.

Lee Allmark led a break from centre before switching the ball to Lindsay who again proved too quick for Wilmslow’s defence as he ran in his second try of the afternoon.

Williams added the extras.

They almost notched another when prop Shaun Underdown popped the ball off his toes to Chris Heptinstall, but his progress was halted by the final covering defender.

Park did not cross the whitewash again as they lost for only the second time this term, but a trip to Sefton this Saturday provides a chance to return to winning ways, kick off 2.15pm.
