Match pointers

WITTON could hand a first start to four players – Sam Barnes, Daniel O’Brien, Jamie Rainford and John Shaw – when they visit leaders Skelmersdale later.

After seven successive league defeats, a sequence that has reached nine in all competitions, they are underdogs to beat a side with the best home record in the Premier Division.

Albion have also slipped in to the relegation zone for the first time this season following results elsewhere in midweek.

History looks kindly on them though after wins on each of their past two visits to play Tommy Lawson’s men, including a 3-1 victory in March.

Skem have won five straight matches in the league, picking up more points on their own pitch than anybody else in the division to date.

Their defensive record is also the best in the section.

The hosts have also won seven of nine meetings with teams in the table’s bottom half so far this term.

Front man Danny Mitchley is hopeful of a return after sitting out the past two games with injury.

Defender Rob Bodie is a face familiar to Witton supporters after spending last season at Wincham Park.
