WINSFORD Swim Team members won a bronze medal at the British Gas ASA National Open Water Championships in Rother Valley.
Ashley Hogg, fourth overall on his debut in the event last year, improved to finish third in the under 16s boys age class behind Tom Millburn (Cockermouth) and defending champion Scott Deans (City of Glasgow).
The Grange School student, who will represent Great Britain at next week’s European Open Water Championships in Germany, completed a 2km course in 23:51.
Millburn took to the front early before powering clear of Deans in the final stretch.
Winsford’s Alisha Hawkins claimed a bronze gong in the under 13s girls’ age class.
The title went to Borough of Waltham Forest’s Phoebe Griffiths as she pulled 12 seconds clear of the field to win in 19:12.10 with Hawkins, who timed 19:25.70, close behind second-placed Imogen Moroney.
It completed a busy week for the 13-year-old, who competed in the pool – in the 400m and 800m freestyle – at the National Age Group Championships at Ponds Forge.
