A WEAVER Vale Cycling Club member fell short of a club record during the Derby Mercury 25 at Etwall.
Dave Fearon, still recovering from a 24-hour race a fortnight ago, was aiming to beat a best of 53:21 set by Ewart Howkins 40 years ago.
Despite a good ride he was frustrated to miss out by just six seconds, finishing in 53:27.
Caroline Fearon suffered a puncture one mile into the ride but a quick change allowed her to minimise lost time, completing the course in 1:08.54 to finish sixth in the women’s class.
Alistair Stanway, also of Weaver Valley, timed 56.20 to place inside the top 50.
