Northwich Victoria manager Jim Gannon persuades three of last season's regular back four to sign again

Signings provide solid foundation

Signings provide solid foundation

NORTHWICH Victoria’s side for the new season will be built on a solid foundation after three of last season’s back four agreed to sign again.

Goalkeeper Tim Deasy, who kept 22 clean sheets as an ever-present last term, has pledged his future to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One North outfit too.

He joins Danny Meadowcroft, Chris Smalley and Callum Henry as manager Jim Gannon’s first recruits.

“We’re confident in Tim and the others,” said the Vics boss.

“But just as significantly, it highlights the faith last season’s players have in the club.

“I am looking forward over the coming weeks to re-signing the majority of those that finished the campaign here with us.”

After replacing Lee Ashcroft in the dugout, Gannon oversaw a run-in that included a single defeat in 20 matches.

He helped secure a piece of silverware too with victory against Tranmere Rovers reserves in the Cheshire FA Senior Cup final.

Gannon said: “Danny came in at an important time last year [when I took over as manager] and he brought a steadiness and aerial power that ensured the team had a platform in defence to build on.

“Chris was one of the most consistent and strongest performers in the team throughout all of last season, while it’s great news Callum is staying too.

“He has shown great maturity in his performances, and I’m impressed with how he has risen to every challenge on the pitch.”

Vics will play a first pre-season friendly against Stockport County, in Flixton, on Saturday week.
