WEAVER Valley Cycling Club rider Alan Kemp had twice the reason to celebrate at the weekend after claiming age class honours in two different races.

He had to grind his way to the finish line following an uphill bunch sprint in the British Cycling National Masters Road Race Championships at Leighton Buzzard, Buckinghamshire, on Saturday.

At the end of 63 miles, Kemp was first in the over 65s category.

He repeated the trick on Sunday when the League of Veteran Racing Cyclists’ Percy Stallard series resumed with the Bashall Eaves Road Race near Clitheroe.

This time he held off the challenge of younger riders during a 44-mile race consisting of four laps of a testing circuit.

Kemp broke clear with six others on the second lap, a group reduced to four next time around until the finish.

He edged away from his rivals with 400 yards left to cross the line on his own.
