IT took a reigning world champion to halt Northwich ace Adam Griffiths at the quarter finals stage of the latest UK Tour event on Saturday.

He lost 7-1 to Norfolk star Tom Cousins, who lifted the World Eight-Ball Pool Federation (WEPF) title last summer.

For Griffiths, who has twice attended trials for the England under 21s team, it marks a best run in the series.

And it propelled him inside the rankings’ top 16 after three tournaments.

Meanwhile Darryl Fallows, who plays for Owley Wood in the Northwich and District League, bowed out in the last 16 to the event’s eventual winner Phil Harrison.

Fallows, who lives in Rudheath, succumbed to both Cousins and England international Ben Flack in the latest round of Premier League matches.

However he recovered to beat national team captain Lee Kendall in his final match of the weekend at Daventry Court Hotel in Northamptonshire,.

That leaves him placed ninth in the table.
