ALAN Kemp, from Weaver Valley Cycling Club, ended another successful week as a national champion.

He was first in class in The League International Criterium Championships at Rhyl, where he lapped the field along with three other riders with 1,000m to go.

He edged his rivals in a sprint to the line to emerge as victor.

Clubmate Nick Butterworth placed fifth in his age category.

Kemp repeated the trick in the Steve Jones Memorial Road Race at Saighton, near Chester, the next day when he was fastest in class over a 43-mile course after fending off multiple attacks and reacting to more than one breakaway.

It marked his third win in a seven-day period following another age category victory in the fourth round of the Dave Astles Memorial Road Race series at Lower Withington.

Weaver Valley’s Kevan Underhill was close behind him, claiming sixth spot in the men’s 45-49 race.

Dave Fearon was quickest of Weaver Valley’s contingent in the Stone Wheelers’ 25, completing a fast course at Blythe Bridge in 54:22 to finish inside the top 30.

Alistair Stanway clocked 56:00, Jim Duffy 57:09 and Chris Gilbertson a 58:08.

Manchester Wheelers’ Scott Burns and Charles Taylor (South Pennine RC) had a close battle with just three seconds separating them at the finish.

Burns edged his rival after timing 50:18.

Jacob Booth claimed a top 10 classification in the West Pennine Road Race over 50 miles on a course close to Clitheroe.

Fellow Weaver Valley junior James Risk competed too, with Jake Cowen (Teamwallis CHH Racing Team) taking overall honours in a field consisting largely of senior riders.
