FIVE crews from Northwich Rowing Club have been picked to represent the North West at this weekend’s Junior Inter-Regional Regatta.

They are rewarded for their performance on the River Weaver during last month’s time trial.

George Lawton races in an MJ16 single scull, while Greg Murphy, Rhys Coffey, Matthew Radford, Lawrence Williams and cox Tom Swithenbank compete in an MJ15 coxed four.

Amelia Berry and Hannah Cooney were fastest in a WJ15 double scull at Runcorn, but the latter’s injury since means she will be replaced by Beth Wilford-Dutton.

Northwich also send a coxed four in both the MJ16 and WJ16 classes.

An MJ16 quad from Grange School Rowing Club, made up of Callum Begg, Ben Holt, Matthew Strickland-Baker and James Darbyshire, are part of the North West team too.

The annual regatta pits each of British Rowing’s 10 regions against each other, with the Thames division split into three.

After timed heats over a 1,500m course at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham, the six fastest boats progress to the final.

In 2013 Thames Upriver won all three trophies on offer – overall, boys and girls – with the North West runner-up in each category.

Racing starts tomorrow at 9.30am.
