Pritch: I'll strengthen this summer

MANAGER Brian Pritchard says Witton’s squad will look different by the end of the summer.

Albion, promotion play-offs semi finalists last season, can finish the current campaign no higher than 15th place in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League’s top tier.

“I’ll be making changes,” he said.

“I know where I need to strengthen, and have a plan in place already to do exactly that.

“The past couple of home performances have confirmed things that I suspected already, and I’m going to do something about it.”

Witton, who lost 4-2 at home to Rushall Olympic on Easter Monday, travel to play-offs

contenders Ashton United for their final Premier Division match tomorrow, Saturday.

They have been beaten twice by the Robins already this season, including a 2-1 reverse in the FA Cup in September.

Successive defeats at Wincham Park, during which his team has conceded eight goals, has persuaded Pritchard he needs to be busy in the transfer market in the close season.

He said: “The second half [against Rushall] on Monday was our season in a nutshell.

“Individual errors have cost us goals too often, and that’s why we’re 23 points behind Ashton in fifth place.

“We’ve survived and won’t be relegated, but we should still be trying to improve.

“I’ve set the players a target of reaching 60 points, which we’ll achieve if we win at the weekend, and that will at least salvage something positive for us to build on.

“I think we’ve let ourselves down in the past two games in front of our fans, so we owe it to them to sign off with a victory.”

Witton have won the past two matches away from Northwich, at Matlock Town and then Barwell.

Meanwhile Pritchard will wait until the latest possible moment for defensive duo Rob Bodie (shin) and Ben Harrison (groin) to prove they are fit enough to feature at Hurst Cross.
