DAVE Fearon was fastest of Weaver Valley Cycling Club’s six-strong contingent in Saturday’s Manchester and District Time Trial Association 25.

Riding a fixed gear, he completed a course on roads around Chelford in 56:51 to place inside the top 20.

Chris Gilbertson, clocking a personal best 1:00.33, and Alistair Stanway in 1:00.52 were next best.

Jim Duffy timed 1:01.38, while veteran Alan Shuttleworth pipped Caroline Fearon by a narrow four-second margin further down the order.

Manchester Wheelers’ Simon Bridge took victory in a swift 52:48, more than a minute ahead of his clubmate Scott Burns.

On Sunday, second-claim Weaver Valley rider Kris Zentek was runner-up in the Frank Morgan Memorial Road Race at North Mersey Business Centre in Knowsley.

He broke clear with Andy Martin (Maxgear) in the closing stages of a 57-mile contest, missing out on first place after a sprint to the line.
