WEAVER Valley Cycling Club youngsters James Risk and Jacob Booth were best in class during Sunday’s Withington Wheelers 25.

They were first and second junior to finish the time trial, with the former clocking 55:32 to place sixth overall from a field of more than 130 starters.

Booth placed narrowly outside the top 50 in 1:03.26 while Caroline Fearon, representing the club’s women’s section, timed 1:12.35.

Adam Duggleby (Wheelbase Altura) was the victor in 52:04.

Weaver Valley’s Alan Kemp won his first race of the campaign, the opening round of the League of Veteran Racing Cyclists’ Percy Stallard series, in Malvern.

He was fastest in his age category, as well as the one below, in the 53-mile Sevale Stallard Road Race despite confessing to being behind in his training schedule.

Kemp joined a break of four riders with a third of the race left on an undulating course, winning an uphill sprint to the finish.
