Manager Brian Pritchard warns Witton Albion can ill-afford to slip up at back-markers Droylsden

SIGHS of relief from supporters at Skelmersdale following Witton Albion’s win there in midweek could likely be heard in Wincham.

But manager Brian Pritchard will warn his players their work is far from done ahead of a trip to relegated Droylsden later today, Saturday.

They will arrive in Manchester occupying a position in the Premier Division table outside of the drop zone for the first time since the turn of the year.

If they extend an unbeaten run to seven matches by beating the Bloods, then the reward could be a highest placing in the standings to date this season.

Pritchard said: “Our best players are at the top of their game, and it’s important they keep doing what they have been in the past couple of weeks.

“If their attitude isn’t right, then we might find ourselves in trouble. That would be a real waste after such a promising performance in midweek.

“We don’t want to slip on a massive banana skin at Droylsden.”

He is right to be cautious, for Witton haven’t beaten any of the other teams in the bottom four on their own pitch this season – drawing on each occasion.

The most recent was a 2-2 draw at Stafford Rangers a fortnight ago, when Danny Andrews rescued a point with a late leveller.

“We know how bad that performance was,” said Pritchard.

“However we still took something from the game. Too often this year we haven’t, and on many occasions when we’ve played much better than we did that day.

“We’ll be taking the match at Droylsden seriously, we have to.

“It’s a strange feeling, but a nice one, to be out of the bottom four at last. It’s a position that we’ve been in for so long that it becomes a familiar reality.

“It was so important that sensation wasn’t allowed to linger any longer.”
