FOOTBALLERS will swap boots for buckets when they wash cars this Sunday to raise money for their club’s chosen charity.

1874 Northwich players join supporters and board members on the forecourt at Arnold Clark, on Manchester Road, to make motors spotless in return for a donation to Ciaran’s Cause.

The Warrington-based charity, named after seven-year-old Ciaran Geddes who died of a suspected heart attack in April 2012 while getting ready to play football with his friends, works to provide defibrillators for schools, amateur sports clubs and community groups with young members.

Junior football teams in Northwich are set to benefit next.

“We’re proud to be linked with such a worthwhile cause,” said 1874 Northwich chairman Paul Stockton.

“Cheshire FA is fully behind what we’re doing, which is to collect funds to help pay for the equipment – and training on how to use it – for clubs in the town.

“We’ve been astounded at the support we’ve received since the club’s formation, and hopefully that will continue this weekend come rain or shine.”

He called on fans, wearing the team’s distinctive green colours, to lend the players a hand.

Minimum donation is £1 per car.

“We’re happy to be involved with 1874 Northwich and what we feel is an excellent charity,” said Richard Ainsworth, sales manager at Arnold Clark.

The event starts at 11am, finishing at 4pm.
