CHESHIRE Stars missed out on promotion to the South Cheshire Premier League’s highest level after losing in Tuesday’s play-off final.
They succumbed 35-24 after a physical encounter with Cheshire East Hightown, who finished third from bottom in the Premier Division.
The campaign ended in disappointment too for Witton Albion, defeated 23-18 by Star the same evening at Sir William Stanier Leisure Centre in Crewe.
The Northwich outfit reached the final after overcoming rivals – two of them – they hadn’t previously beaten.
Winsford had reason to celebrate though, proving too strong for Bentley in their head-to-head.
Their reward will be to play in Division One next season.
