BOWLS: Cheshire celebrate eighth national title
BOWLERS from Northwich and Middlewich were part of Cheshire’s team crowned English Short Mat Bowling Association Inter County Championship winners for the eighth successive year.
They defeated Hampshire, opponents they defeated in the final in 2011, at Northampton on Sunday.
Dennis Leather and Vernon Slater, from Northwich, plus Middlewich duo Steve Proctor and Simon White, contributed to the 23-17 victory.
Cheshire’s reward is to host the British Isles Top Team tournament later this year, when they will represent England against rivals from Ireland and Wales.
