Northern 2 Winnington Park 1

WINNINGTON Park slipped to a second successive defeat in the North Men’s League on Saturday, this time at Northern.

The Northwich outfit almost broke the deadlock during the early exchanges when Paul Stackhouse fired wide.

Daniel Moores and Oli Wilkes were causing problems for the hosts on the right wing, combining to create a chance for Pete Evans who shot too high.

Winnington were made to pay for missing chances when their Crosby-based hosts fired a penalty flick past goalkeeper John-Paul Dodd for the opener.

Park struck back immediately, Wilkes intercepting a loose pass in midfield before bursting into the circle and spotting a gap at the near post into which he sent a powerful shot.

Northern converted a penalty corner after the break to establish a lead they did not relinquish despite their guests twice sending efforts against the bar.
