NORTHWICH Sapphires climbed the table in the Warrington and District Winter League’s Premier Division after a thrilling, but narrow, derby win against Knutsford on Wednesday.

Ursuala Heath’s sharp shooting made the difference late on during a 30-28 success at Birchwood High School, Sapphires’ player of the match firing her team up to fifth in the standings.

They turn their attention this weekend to the North West Championship League, when they will be favourites to close the gap to first place following a head-to-head with lowly Capricorn.

Their opponents have lost each of four matches to date, leaving them to prop up the table.

Sapphires, following back-to-back victories at the start of the campaign, have suffered defeat in their past two fixtures.
