Stockport Bramhall 2 Winnington Park 3
A LATE piece of magic by Thomas Hughes conjured three points for Winnington Park on Saturday in the North League’s Division Two West.
Paul Stackhouse’s double established a two-goal lead for the Northwich-based team and, after the hosts battled back to level, Hughes’ dribble and finish proved decisive.
A series of penalty corners resulted in Stackhouse converting with a low flick to open the scoring.
He then doubled his tally from close range following clever build-up from involving Daniel Hilton and Andrew Birdsey.
Blues missed a chance to increase their lead when Stackhouse slipped while on a hat-trick, before Hilton’s well-struck shot was saved.
Park appeared untroubled in defence, marshalled by returning Adam Kueres, only for penalty corners to yield two goals for their opponents.
Oli Wilkes’ attempt was scrambled clear before Hughes collected the ball and waltzed past four defenders and fired home.
Menwhile Chris Mottershaw, Mark Leigh, Tommy Hill and Mark Smith were on target for Park’s seconds in a 4-2 victory against their Bramhall counterparts.
