NECTAR’S surprise win at higher-ranked Barn Owl D was the stand-out result from the Northwich and District League Team Knockout’s round of 16 on Wednesday.

Separated by two levels and 25 places before the start of play, the Division Three side celebrated a 4-0 victory to reach the quarter finals.

Chapels, another team from the bottom tier, recovered from 3-1 adrift to send out Division Two outfit Iron Bridge after Jonny Murphy held his nerve to win a deciding frame.

Elsewhere Hartford A were a single frame away from claiming the scalp of top flight Gladstone B, leading 3-0, only to bow out 4-3.

The Lion restored parity after losing the first two head-to-heads against Rudheath, only for the Division One pacesetters to prove too strong in a 5-2 win.

In the Supplementary Shield, Gladstone C cruised through at the expense of league rivals Barn Owl B.

Another side based at the Barnton venue, Barn Owl E, were the only one to beat opponents from a division above in a 4-1 success against visiting Slow & Easy.

Witton Chimes were on course to do the same against Barn Owl C after establishing a 3-1 advantage, only to lose the next three frames.

Two matches were played between teams from the same club; Greenbank A edging Greenbank B while Beech Tree B upset Beech Tree A.
