WINNINGTON Park suffered only their second defeat of the season on Saturday afternoon, though they shipped nine goals en route.
Hosts Alderley Edge seconds used set plays perfectly to expose defensive indiscipline on the part of the away team, who trailed 4-0 at the interval – all following penalty corner routines.
They did at least register a consolation when Oli Wilkes lifted a loose ball into the net after Karl Kueres’ initial attempt had been parried by the goalkeeper into his path.
Alderley Edge hit back, adding five further goals to punish their guests’ increasingly-ragged defending.
Strugglers Wigan, without a win in nine matches to date, visit Moss Farm this weekend.
Unbeaten Alderley Edge thirds proved too strong for Winnington’s seconds in the North West League, Mark Leigh netting for the hosts in a 4-1 reverse.
