Match pointers
IF Oldham Boro deny 1874 Northwich victory for a third time this season tomorrow, Saturday, then the Division One newcomers may well conclude they have already found a ‘bogey’ team.

Boro pooped the party on the season’s opening day by pinching a point after a 1-1 draw at Barton Stadium, then spoiled their rivals’ FA Vase debut with a victory in extra time in September.

They have not lost a league encounter at Alder Street since August 17 either, a run of four matches.

However nor have they won any of their past four games in all competitions, losing three of those, or have they yet shut out an opponent.

The visitors celebrated victory on Wednesday in their first match since losing influential captain Adam Foy to long-term injury, easing to the next stage of the Cheshire FA Senior Cup.

Top scorer Mike Brandon swelled his season goals tally to 17 in a 4-0 win, while central defender Craig Farnworth made his first start since recovering from a knee problem.

A surprise 4-3 defeat at Rochdale Town last time out in the league ended a nine-match unbeaten sequence away from home, though Ian Street’s men still have scored more points on their travels – 23 – than anybody else in the section.
