1874 Northwich manager Ian Street receives Manager of the Month prize for October
HE may have argued otherwise at full time on Saturday, but 1874 Northwich boss Ian Street says manager of the month prizes do not hide inside a curse on results.
An unbeaten run during October, including four wins from five games in all competitions, earned the Division One award – announced before a 4-3 defeat at Rochdale Town that ended – at least for now – his side’s hopes of returning to the table’s top spot.
“Everybody likes a bit of credit don’t they?” he said.
“Managers who say they’re not keen on being nominated aren’t telling the truth – if you win it, then it’s a sign things are going well on the pitch.
“Of course it’s the players that do the hard work, so really it’s them that decide who gets the prize and who misses out.”
Victories against Hanley Town and Squires Gate in the North West Counties League Challenge Cup acted as bookends to a month that included league wins against Flixton Villa and Darwen.
A goalless draw at home to Irlam completes the list.
Street said: “It’s a sign that the lads, as a group, are finally realising their potential.
“That’s not to say we won’t lose again, because we will, but there’s a faith there now that we have enough quality to deal with most situations.
“Perhaps that was missing a bit earlier in the season when at times there has been a bit of panic if we’ve not broken through or have gone behind in a game. Now we know we can get a result against anybody.”
1874 Northwich visit Flixton Villa for the second time in three weeks on Wednesday, this time to make their debut in the Cheshire FA Senior Cup.
Kick off is 7.45pm.
