SWIMMING: County call-up for Northwich youngsters
TWO juniors from Northwich Amateur Swimming Club (ASC) represented Cheshire at last weekend’s British Gas ASA National County Team Championships.
Nick Law timed 59.29s in the under 13s boys’ 100m freestyle and 1:08.07 in the 100m backstroke before helping the county’s under 13s boys’ 4x50m medley quartet to ninth position.
Clubmate Sam James clocked 55.11s for the under 15s boys’ 100m freestyle, forming part of a 4x50m foursome that placed eighth.
Cheshire were fifth overall.
Northwich occupied the same position at the end of Swim Conwy’s Autumn Meet at Llandudno Swimming Centre, where Will Hutchin was a race-winner in the under 15s boys’ 50m and 100m freestyle.
He was runner-up in the 50m butterfly, adding third place finishes in the 50m breaststroke and 100m butterfly.
In two disciplines – 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle – he improved on a previous personal best.
Rebecca Broadhurst placed sixth overall in the under 14s girls’ standings, a highlight second spot in the 50m and 200m backstroke races.
She timed 2:38.39 in the latter, lowering her best by almost two seconds.
Becky Howman was a runner-up in the under 12s girls’ 200m butterfly, clocking a personal best 2:53.88, and third for the same stroke over 50m.
Younger sister Lottie was second fastest in the under 10s girls’ 200m butterfly, collecting enough points to be sixth in the standings for her age class.
There were notable results too for Alison Hutchinson, who improved her 800m freestyle best by more than 50 seconds in the under 14s girls’ category, and Joe Korta. He was second overall in the under 15s boys’ 100m backstroke.
