HOCKEY: Inspired to recover
PARK were left to rue yet another draw, their fourth in the opening six games this season in North League Division Two West.
In reality they did well to fight their way back from a 2-0 deficit, Bramhall proving to be lethal on the counterattack while Paul Stackhouse and Mike Dodd caused trouble at the other end.
The normally lethal Dodd missed two chances, but the comeback was sparked by Oli Wilkes’ strike following a goalmouth melee.
Stockport established again a two-goal lead before half time, but a rousing team talk during the interval provided inspiration for a turnaround in the second half.
Wilkes doubled his tally soon after the restart and an equaliser arrived in the closing stages when Stackhouse dispatched a penalty corner to earn Park a share of the spoils.
They will try to break their draw hoodoo when they host Neston at Moss Farm on Saturday.
Winnington’s second team also earned a draw in North West League Division Four South, Jack Millington and Jack Smith’s goals pegging back Stockport to 2-2.
