Winsford United have been paired with last year's winners in the FA Vase second round draw
WINSFORD United’s reward for a dramatic extra time success on Saturday is to host holders Spennymoor Town at the next stage of the FA Vase.
Blues came from behind to beat Garforth Town in the first round, James Rothwell sealing a 2-1 win five minutes from the end of the contest’s extra half hour.
Eddy Haslam’s men waited until two minutes from time to cancel out Sam Akeroyd’s opener, recent recruit Harry Noon restoring parity.
“The lads battled hard and deserved their victory,” said secretary Bob Astles.
“They showed what they are capable of when everyone gives 100 per cent.”
Spennymoor are currently top of the Northern League after losing only one of their opening 15 league games, winning 10.
They defeated Tunbridge Wells at Wembley in May to win the trophy for the first time.
Winsford have won three matches already in this season’s edition to reach the second round, sending out Wigan Robin Park and Pontefract Collieries before their weekend win at Garforth.
They have collected more than £2,000 in prize money as a reward.
Spennymoor, exempt to the second round, are due at Barton Stadium on Saturday, November 16, kick off 3pm.
