WITTON Albion boss Brian Pritchard is confident his players can thrive on the atmosphere FC United’s travelling faithful will bring to Wincham Park on Saturday.
Albion host FC United in the FA Trophy first qualifying round, having lost at the Bury-based outfit in the league in September.
Well aware the visitors will bring a large crowd, Pritchard has called on Albion’s fans to turn out and back his side following their recent run of good form.
“The players thrive on it,” he said. “The problem at Gigg Lane was getting instructions onto the pitch as it was so loud.
“Our fans need to come out and support us on Saturday, we’ve got a good fan base and we are looking forward to it – we’re in a better place after the last few weeks and are happy with the team.
“It’s a misconception FC have a big budget, they’ve got huge support and have good players, but their onus remains on playing good football.
“I’m sure their players still enjoy the atmosphere, but in some respects they are used to it and our lot really thrive on it.”
Following the 3-1 Evo-Stik Northern League top flight defeat at Gigg Lane, Pritchard believes Saturday’s game is the perfect opportunity to see how far his side have progressed.
“There’s a lot that has taken place and a bit of history,” he explained. “But we’re not focused on that, we’re looking forward to the game.
“It will be a welcome break from the league for many people and a chance to measure how far we have come. It’ll be interesting to see how we’ve improved after a good few weeks.”
However, the boss is sweating on the availability of on-loan forward Dave Walker, who has proved a valuable asset in attack since his arrival from Rushall Olympic and is a player Pritchard would like to see at Wincham Park long term.
“Obviously we would like for him to play,” he said. “But at the moment we don’t know where we stand. We are trying to talk to the parent club and it’s down to them.
“I’d like to make it more of a long term thing, he brings great experience and can score goals and he adds to what we’ve got in that department.”
