BOWLS: Mid Cheshire A are champions
MID Cheshire A, already crowned as Federation National League Division One champions for a record fourth successive year, have added another trophy to their collection.
And it is one they had yet to get their hands on; the Champion of Champions Cup – an end-of-season knockout tournament contested by the six section winners.
They recorded victories against Division Two table-toppers Halifax and Cannock, victors in Division Three, at the initial group stage.
A 6-4 success against Middleton, secured a final head-to-head with North Yorkshire.
It proved a one-sided contest, with Mid Cheshire winning by 61 chalks on aggregate at Todmorden Park.
“At the seventh attempt we finally did it,” said captain Mark Winnington. “We took probably the strongest squad yet, which I think made the difference for us in the end.”
He led a 12-strong group made up of bowlers from Castle Private and Wharton Cons, the Mid-Cheshire Bowling Association’s top two clubs, along with in-form Nigel Parsonage, from Crewe PO.
