MARK Wakefield took over at the top of the standings in the Manchester and Buxton Kart Club’s Senior Rotax Max class after Sunday’s ninth round.
The Weaverham-based racer claimed a lights-to-flag victory from pole position in heat two at Wigan’s Three Sisters circuit, building on a fifth-place finish – from 15th on the grid – in the first qualifier.
He established a slender lead over closest rival Lewis Seville in the championship table after ending the afternoon with a pair of second places, despite battling a tyre pressure problem in the final.
