WEAVER Valley Cycling Club’s Alistair Stanway completed Saturday’s Altrincham Ravens Open 25 in under an hour, clocking 59:26 to place inside the top 10 finishers.

Simon Bridge (Manchester Wheelers) claimed victory, timing 52:44 to beat closest rival Darren Maironis (Withington) by more than a minute.

Caroline Fearon knocked 45 seconds off her personal best in the Derby Mercury 25, recording 1:03:11 to go close to setting a new club best. She finished inside the top 15 of the ladies’ category.

Paula Moseley (Climb on Bikes RT) was class victor in 55:10, the fastest 25-mile time by a female this year.

The weekend was a less happy one for Dave Fearon, who was prevented by illness from finishing the West Cheshire Time Trial Association 12-hour race.

Weaver Valley’s Chris Gilbertson claimed club honours at the same event, completing 221 miles to place 37th overall. Grigor Wallace (Team Midland Racing) was first.

Giles Bett, riding in Dave Hinde Racing colours, claimed a creditable ninth position in the elite male class of the Midlands Cross Country Mountain Bike series’ finale at Eastridge.

Oli Beckingsale, who has represented Great Britain at three Olympic Games, was the victor after completing a six-lap course in 1:28.28.
