Northwich Victoria Supporters Association will 'give a voice' to Vics fans, says its organisers
FANS behind a proposed new supporters group say they plan to represent Northwich Victoria followers who have stayed silent since the club was left homeless.
They met in Lostock last week for the first time.
“We feel that there is a high number of Vics fans out there who have been quiet,” said club secretary Dave Thomas.
“They’re probably feeling frustrated that they’ve not got a voice, a way of finding out information about what is happening.
“That’s the main principle behind establishing this group.”
He said a dozen fans, including himself and club president Derek Nuttall, agreed to organise following a meeting at Lostock Gralam Community Centre last Thursday.
Club owner Jim Rushe did not attend, according to Thomas.
Northwich Victoria Supporters Association, which is also the current company name of Northwich Victoria Supporters Trust, issued a statement, written by Nuttall, this weekend.
It read: “The main objective of the association is to act as a focal point of support for Northwich Victoria Football Club and to work with it to find a home in Northwich where it can continue its existence.”
The team currently hosts opponents in Stafford, more than 40 miles away from its now former Victoria Stadium home.
Vics players prepare for matches on a pitch at Flixton, in Greater Manchester, where the club hopes to be based from next season.
The supporters association says it will host an open forum for Northwich fans in the coming weeks to explain how it will function.
Before then it will form a committee.
An attempt last year to revive the old Northwich Victoria Supporters Club, led by a man with no previous connection to Vics and who had never even seen them play, was unsuccessful.
Thomas added: “This time it’s different to that; everybody around the table at Lostock is a long-standing Vics fan.”
