Witton Albion paired with former boss Jim Vince's Congleton Town in Cheshire FA Senior Cup last eight

WITTON will for the first time play a team picked by former boss Jim Vince when they travel to Congleton.

The two sides have been paired in the quarter finals of the Cheshire FA Senior Cup, the draw for which was published earlier today, Wednesday.

Albion have not come face to face with Vince since his acrimonious departure as manager – he resigned, was reinstated and then quit again – in 2008.

“It’s a match that will stir supporters’ emotions, no doubt about it,” said Witton boss Brian Pritchard, part of a team that suffered play-offs heartache in successive seasons under Vince.

“I would say this though; it’s a cup tie that we want to win, so will need our fans to set that to one side and get behind the team.”

Witton twice reached the Northern Premier League Premier Division play-offs under Vince, the first occasion after missing out on the league title only on goal difference.

His Congleton team reached the county cup’s last eight after a penalty shoot out success against North West Counties League rivals Winsford United last night, Wednesday.

Midfielder Rory Fallon, still registered as a player at Wincham Park, played for the Bears from the start.

I think it's strange that a club based outside Cheshire, with seemingly no intention of returning to it, is even allowed in this competiton. Doesn't seem right somehow.

Anyway, it would be nice to get one over our ex manager and get some silverware to Wincham Park this season. And continue to build on the fantastic promotion last term. Up the Albs!
