BRIAN Pritchard says the arrival of Danny Meadowcroft is proof he continues to make Witton stronger for the season’s remainder.

The stopper completed his move to Wincham from Colwyn Bay yesterday, Thursday, with the Albion boss keen to count on the 27-year-old’s know-how in defence.

“He will provide something we are lacking,” said Pritchard.

“It can only help our back four to have someone like him around who can recognise when something needs to change out on the pitch.

“Danny has played at a higher level, so is a player of quality, but he arrives with lots of experience too.

“His signing should shake up the squad, because I want it to be a reminder that I won’t be afraid to make a change or bring in a player if it improves upon what is here already, which he does.”

Meadowcroft is no stranger to success either, a quality Pritchard hopes will count as Witton attempt to remain in contention for back-to-back promotions.

The Cheshire-born defender was on the pitch when Colwyn Bay defeated FC United of Manchester in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division play-offs final in 2011.

He was a title winner with Mossley in the competition’s second tier in 2006, his form earning him move to Morecambe who were promoted to the Football League from the Conference national the following season.

Meadowcroft was also part of a Northwich team that defied expectation to avoid relegation from non-league’s top tier in 2008.

Pritchard said: “He’s a winner, but also has succeeded in adversity like he did with Northwich.

“I think we’ve missed having somebody who is powerful and able to win a high percentage of headers.

“As a centre half, it’s something that sticks out a mile to me when I watch.”
