CUP kings Castle Private B added another higher-ranked scalp to a growing collection in the Northwich and District League Team Knockout last eight on Wednesday.

Conquerors of Rudheath A at the previous stage, they beat Buffs Club to secure a semi finals place after skipper Dave Cain won the sixth frame on a black ball.

They will be joined by clubmates Castle Private A, who avoided an upset at Division Two promotion hopefuls The Elms.

Hartford A, giantkillers in the last 16 after surprising top tier team Gladstone A, were surprisingly beaten by Division Three rivals Slow & Easy in a tense encounter.

Owley Wood A, the only previous winners left in the field, were made to work for their last four spot by White Barn before winning through by the odd frame in seven.

In the Supplementary Shield, 2007 winners Hartford B will be favourites to lift the title after sending out second tier top dogs Bowling Green B.

Win of the round belonged to Division Three outfit The Lion, a success for the Moulton-based team at Wheatsheaf securing a semi finals place.

Division Two rivals Witton Chimes join them after winning at Beech Tree, while Owley Wood C forgot their league woes – they are near certain to be relegated – to beat Gladstone B.
