A FAMILY day out, a safe way to try cycling or a chance to speed around a racing circuit without the worry of traffic awaits riders at an event in June.

Get On Your Bike (GOYB) will take place at renowned motor racing circuit Oulton Park on Sunday, June 16.

The first part of the day, from 8am to 10am, is set aside for speed demons to tackle as many of the 2.7-mile laps as they can Then from 10.30am to 5pm the track will be available for individuals, families and teams to have fun.

The event has been organised by Vale Royal Lions in conjunction with St Luke’s Hospice, the Neuromuscular Centre, the North West Air Ambulance, the League of Friends for Tarporley War Memorial Hospital and the Northwich Guardian’s Pedal Power campaign.

It will be a real family day out for event sponsor Brian Phillips, from TWG in Middlewich Road.

He has donated a bicycle to be given away at the event, has volunteered to drive a van around the track to look after marshalls and any cyclist in need of help and his family has also entered a team to cycle on the day.

Brian said: “Both of my daughters will be there cycling with their kids because it’s perfectly safe.

“They all ride their bikes around the park or at Marbury but they can go with their mum and dad and it will be safe.

“And what could be nicer than riding around Oulton Park?”

A variety of attractions, barbecue and refreshments will also be available on the day.

Advance booking is recommended with an entry fee of £6 and a minimum of £25 sponsorship, which will be split between the five charities.

Advance booking for families is a £16 entry fee and minimum total family sponsorship of £50.
