A FORMER Northwich student is appealing to his fellow classmates to give an old school photograph a place to call home.
Alan Leicester studied at Sir John Deane’s Grammar School for seven years from 1953.
The 72-year-old from Davenham, who has worked for many companies, including ICI in Lostock, contacted the Guardian last week after he found himself in possession of an old photograph taken at the school.
The photograph, pictured with Alan, was given to him by Pam Birtwisle of Birtwisle’s Butchers.
“I was talking to Pam about the 60th reunion coming up this month and she said she had a photograph of the school when I was there as her husband Ian is on it.
“The photo is of 1953 but I only started in September, the photograph looks to have been taken in the summer months as the girls are wearing their summer dresses.”
Alan, who has a similar photograph from 1955, which does feature him, is hoping to give the 1953 version away to someone who will get more use out of it.
“I’m not on the photograph but I know people on it and I’m sure it would be of great interest to somebody,” said Alan, who says Pam is happy for him to donate the photograph to someone else.
“It would be a great shame to throw it away,”
“It’s beautifully framed – it has never been opened since it was first done and it is such beautiful quality.”
Alan is now looking forward to the 60th reunion at Sir John Deane’s on September 10.
“We had about 80 of us at the 50th reunion – we’re scattered all over the world now, in the States, in Africa, but I stayed.
“I love Northwich, it’s my town, it’s my place.
“I’m thrilled to bits to be going back to the school now.
“It has changed so much. It was such a wonderful place coming from a local primary school.
“I can’t wait – maybe we’ll get a tour?”
